The SEQ AFL under 17 girls is choke full of kids who were capable of lifting morale around their side - win, lose or draw.

Every team needs them - players who always have a smile, or a comment to put a smirk on the face of their teammates no matter the circumstances.

Asha Hynes:

Hynes is the life of the party. “She is full of energy and enthusiasm,’’ said he coach Dave Palmucci. “She brings that energy on field and is best known for her famous chase down tackles.’’

Charlie Morris:

The ultimate teammate, Morris gets around her players and leads from the front. “She is a strong voice on and off the field and brings a real energy and vibe to the team,’’ coach Palmucci said.

Victoria Point

Clara Cooke:

Cooke played her first game for the Sharks in 2017 and has become one of the most popular players on the team. “Supportive, encouraging and understanding, Clara has a great football brain and is eager to share her knowledge with her teammates with the aim of helping them improve their own game,;; said coach Trevor Mayhew.

Tyra Bell-Brooks:

Bell-Brooks is a hard-working defender who’s always smiling and positive. “Although often quiet, Tyra brings an energy to the team through her infectious enthusiasm and love for the sport,’’ coach Mayhew said.

Abbey Pielli and Chloe Batrachenko:

They could be sisters with their outgoing personalities and music in there souls. “Both bring smiles and laughter wherever they go, but don’t let that fool you as the competitor inside of them burns bright,’’ said coach Damien King.

Brigid Gunn:

She is know as the team’s smiling assassin down in the backline - but don’t be fooled by her quiet and unassuming manner.

“Brigid is a real competitor who really if ever gets beaten by her opponent,’’ said her coach Jamie Sceney.

“She is a delight to coach and one of the first magnets put on the board. Hopefully she has a long and successful career at Wilston Grange hassling and niggling small forwards.’’

Tweed Coast Northern Rivers Tigers

Cassidy Talbot and Ava Dixon:

Tigers coach Steve Foreman said there is always great energy in his group.

“The positive energy generated at our training sessions and matches comes from girls, hungry for footy,’’ he said. “Our girls are all about each other, with some great energy generators in there providing the sparks and the laughs that sticks them all together. Cassidy Talbot and Ava Dixon are just two great identities who support the others and pump up the team.

Jade Sheldon:

Maroochydore

Lily Thomas: Selected in the leadership group this year, Thomas is another no-nonsense footballer who will most likely play backline and get a match up each week.

Morningside (Div 2)

Katie Prove: Prove unfortunately missed playing in Morningside’s grand final victory last year, but is back on track again this season and training hard. “Katie is always smiling, but is fierce at the contestm’’ said coach Alan McGrath. “She’s shown great improvement already this year and we can’t wait to see how her year progresses.’’

Coorparoo

Lexie Moran:

Moran is a registered player with 17s but had a concussion early in the year whilst playing and captaining the AFL State High team. Even when she was unable to play, Moran still attended all training sessions, assisting where she can.

“She has been instrumental in taking ownership of game rotations, allowing us coaches to keep a watch on the game. “Lexie is always there for the team off the field and hopefully in time she will be back on it as well,’’ praised coach Scott Harrison.

Burleigh Bears

Izzy Lowe:

“Izzy’s confidence has just exploded this season,’’ praised Bombers coach Emily Ott. “She is our full forward who is able to kick up to six goals a game. Her solid performance on field has lead to her backing up and also playing for the Bond Uni Bullshark’s Senior Womens team.’’ Otto said Lowe was her most consistent player in the team and has great insight into the game that her peers respect. “You will always find her with a smile on her face and willing to encourage others in the team to be their best,’’ Otto said. “She is the first to celebrate others little wins and is always positive regardless of what’s happening around her.’’

Wests Juniors

Daisy Quin:

Quin is always upbeat and energetic with a terrific sense of fun around the group, coach Mark McCabe said. “Daisy lifts the girls with her commitment at training and in the huddle.’’

Emmerson Brady:

“The player in our side that shows great team spirit both on and off the training paddock and each game day is Emmerson,’’ said coach Watterson.

Surfers Paradise

Ella Willis:

Ella is the voice of the team and always has the biggest smile on her face,’’ observed coach Chanel Fletcher. “And that smile is contagious. SHe is always using her voice to motivate the team and lead from the front, and she is such a ray of sunshine to have on the team.’’ Fletcher said as a result, Willis was always boosting team morale.’’

Meanwhile, in Div 2 action from the weekend, the Northern Rivers girls had a great top of the table showdown with the Morningside Panthers at Jack Esplen Oval on Sunday.

Coach Steve Foreman said his Tigers’ girls put on a gritty and determined performance to stamp their mark on the 17s Div 2 competition.

In a high quality, high energy match, the Northern Rivers Girls outlasted the tall and skillful Panthers squad.

“The girls are training hard and we are really focussing on clean possession and fast transition play,’’ Foreman said.

“With effective ruck and on ball options available, we are building a strong, organised and accountable team structure across the ground.

“Despite injuries to some of our best players, our brave girls are turning up week after week with no bench and taking them on.

“The game against Morningside was a great example of our Northern Rivers energy and skill,’’ he said.

The game kicked off with all the energy expected. The Panthers had the early ascenence with great connection and skill, looking dangerous and attacking hard.

It didnt take long for the TIgers break-out on-ballers to get into gear.

Great ruck advantage from Billi Hutton again loaded up running options at stoppages. Allanah McNally and Milly Ella were in scintillating form again, driving us forward.

Heidi Grimster (three goals) led the Tigers forwards with clever leading and space for goal scoring options.

Summer Browning was outstanding providing switch options and great run and carry out of half back.

“Once again our miserly backline stood tall with Ash Rettenmaier, Bonnie Starling and Savannah Hampson holding out and reloading us through the middle,’’ Foreman said.

“Ari Brown was unstoppable with blistering pace, hard tackling and skillful delivery.

“Taleeya Smith provided a great target up field, playing hard in front and marking everything coming in.’’

It was a relentless, high pressure contest that was a great game for all spectators.. In the end the fast and elusive onballers for the Northern Rivers girls gave the Coast side the edge.

“The Rivers girls finished with 13 fit players on the ground and a fast finishing Panther pack taking it right up to us..

“We had the scoreboard separation in our favour to hold out for a spirited and well earned victory’’
