A storage giant could be the latest high profile company to invest in a bayside suburb quickly becoming a retail hot spot after recently revealing plans for a massive new Brisbane location.
The Trust Company Ltd, along with town planners Mewing Planning Consultants, yesterday submitted plans to the Brisbane City Council for a National Storage warehouse at 300-314 Tingal Rd, Wynnum.
Replacing the old Downtown Toyota car yard which has been vacant for nine months, the 9866.5 sqm, four-storey warehouse will cover the entire space on Tingal Rd from Mungala St to Glenora St and will feature more than 180 storage spaces.
It will also sit just 500m from the recently redeveloped car showrooms at iconic Wynnum business, Bartons Car Dealership.
The proposal comes after a development and retail boom in Wynnum, which has included Taiwanese property giant Shayher Properties having their $100 million revamp of the Wynnum Plaza approved by council, the suburb’s first cinema in more than 50 years opening its doors last month, as well as a spate of new cafes, restaurants and bars launching on the bayside.
National Storage is one of Australasia’s largest self-storage providers with more than 200 storage centres across Australia and New Zealand.

If the proposal is approved, it would also mean another new business moving into Wynnum’s industrial area after the suburb’s first microbrewery, Hudson Brewing, opened on Gibbs St in December.
Councillor for Wynnum Manly Peter Cumming (ALP) said it was great to see a company like National Storage wanting to invest in the area.
“The area is continuing to strongly progress,” he said.
David Bateston from Wynnum Business and the newly formed Wynnum Commerce Group, said it was a great sign for the suburb.
“Especially for that area because not much has been done in that area over the years really,” he said.
“I’m sure it’ll be good for the other businesses around as well but just the area in general, it will bring more jobs, in particularly during the construction phase if it goes ahead.
“The only question I suppose is the impact it’ll have on local residents but I think something like this would be great for the area.”
