A BRISBANE North man has shaved half his hair, moustache and beard to raise money and awareness about the destruction of the world’s forests.
Mick “Beardman” Storey, a long-time beard owner, raised $1000 which will be used to save 400 acres — or more than 15 football fields — of Amazon rainforest.

He joined 106 others in the 2019 #halfcut initiative, which raised more than $216,000 to protect more than 86,000 acres of rainforest.
Although the challenge has wrapped up, Mr Storey isn’t done yet.
He’s determined to keep raising funds until September 30. His new goal is to raise $2500.
“I constantly see the environment being put last in the name of progress,” he said.
“There are better, smarter and more sustainable ways to do things, and with new technologies this should be so much easier.
“Rainforests are such an important part of our environment, climate and even our own health, so saving as much as we can now is not only critical, it is something we can all do together,” Mr Storey said.

According to the halfcut website, 98.8 per cent of money raised is donated to the Rainforest Trust Saving Indigenous Lands in The Amazon campaign, which focuses on land purchases in the western part of the Amazon Basin.
