Tex-Mex restaurant El Camino Cantina to open at Westfield Chermside
A popular Tex-Mex restaurant is set to open its second venue on Brisbane’s northside next month, creating 45 new jobs in the process, but it won’t be the last in southeast Queensland, with another new venue expected in just a matter of weeks.

A NEW Tex-Mex restaurant will open on Brisbane’s north next month.
El Camino Cantina will open at Westfield Chermside in mid to late October and will be only the second of the Austin, Texas-inspired Tex-Mex restaurants in Queensland.
The first was opened by Rockpool Dining Group at King St, Bowen Hills about one year ago.
Another is planned for the Sunshine Coast in October/November.
The Chermside restaurant will seat 220 for casual dining and will employ 45 local people.
Rockpool Dining Group Chief Executive Officer Thomas Pash said it would be similar in look and feel to the restaurant at Bowen Hills.

This includes “all the hallmarks of Texan meets Mexican interior design, including neon signage fused with accents of rustic Mexican haciendas, such as weathered wood and reclaimed timbers, rustic recycled bricks and breeze blocks, decorative tiles and other ornamental touches,” Mr Pash said.
“Each venue features wild rock poster-style imagery and a custom-designed, whole-of-wall mural by Australian punk music and art icon Ben Brown.
“The Chermside feature wall takes a nod from the classic Day of the Dead Mexican culture, mashed up with a comic-influenced zombie party, and features senoritas and classic cars, crooning Mariachi bands and the spirits of the dead.”

The Chermside restaurant will employ 45 staff on a full-time and casual basis.
“Recruitment is underway and there are still back of house positions to fill,” Mr Pash said.
“Closer to launch we will advertise for front of house waiters and runners.”

Rockpool Dining Group opened its first restaurant at Westfield Chermside, The Bavarian, in mid-2017.
“The Bavarian has been trading strongly since day one,” Mr Pash said.
“We love the outdoor, tropical-themed dining precinct and shoppers seem to love it, too, so it made sense to open a second restaurant nearby.”
