The $23.7 million multistorey carpark at Redcliffe Hospital is expected to be open later this year but the State Government is refusing to reveal how much residents will have to pay to park there.

The State Government has previously told The Herald parking would be capped at $15 a day.

When asked if the parking prices had been determined a Redcliffe Hospital spokesman refused to give up any figures.

“The tariff structure, including concessional rates for eligible patients, visitors, and staff will be announced in coming months,” the spokesman said.

When the much-needed project was announced by the State Government in 2017, it was made clear the carpark would not be run by a private company.

It was proposed tariffs collected will be used by Metro North Health Services to pay off the loan for the building.

It was due to be open last year but construction did not start until August.

Once complete there will be an extra 400 car park spaces for patients, visitors and staff- bringing the total to 1100.

During construction 200 carpark spaces have been closed and staff left to park at the Redcliffe Showgrounds and walk.

Patients and visitors are parking in side streets – the very problem the new multistorey carpark is proposed to fix.
