CONSTRUCTION of a new multistorey carpark at a busy hospital north of Brisbane was meant to start in a few weeks but the designs are yet to be finalised.

The State Government announced it plans to build a much needed multistorey car park at Redcliffe Hospital in August, 2017.

State Labor MP for Redcliffe Yvette D’Ath told Quest Community News in January construction was expected to start in October, this year, with the carpark to be completed by 2019.

The State Government set aside $23.7 million in the 2018/19 State Budget for the four-storey car park.

Mrs D’Ath this week said the design was yet to be finalised.

“The project is currently going through planning processes, including public consultation, and contracting architects and engineers,” Mrs D’Ath said.

She said design work was planned for October and November with the main construction expected to start in the first half of 2019.

The car park is now not expected to be operational until early 2020.

Parking at Redcliffe Hospital has been described as a “nightmare” by many for years.

A study conduced by Metro North Health, found the carpark was full between 9am and 3pm.

The proposed multistorey carpark is expected to create 400 additional spaces.

It will include a mix of staff, public and disabled spaces.

Patients, staff and visitors will have to pay up to $15 a day to park at the hospital, including in spaces not in the multistorey carpark.

It will not be run by a private company. Tariffs collected will be used by Metro North Health Services to pay off the loan for the building.

Mrs D’Ath did not say where hospital visitors, patients and staff would have to park during the construction.
