The State Government has finally revealed what the $23.7 million multistorey carpark at Redcliffe Hospital will look like once complete late next year.

A Redcliffe Hospital spokesman said construction of the project, which was originally due to be open this year, started in August.

Funding for the project was first announced in August, 2017.

“When Redcliffe Hospital’s new multistorey car park is complete in the second half of next year, there will be around 1,100 car spaces for hospital patients, visitors and staff to use,” the spokesman said.

“Construction began in August and it is expected that the four-storey car park will take approximately 12 months to complete.”

He said the project was on track with no significant delays.

The existing carpark was demolished in September and about 250 tonnes of concrete was removed and recycled.

“The building’s footings have been poured and a tower crane is now supporting construction operations,” the spokesman said.

“Dust, noise and vibration monitoring equipment remain in use on the site to ensure that we continue to minimise impacts to our patients and neighbours.”

During construction of the four-storey carpark close to 200 existing carparks at the hospital will be unavailable.

There is still limited free parking available at the hospital, on Anzac Ave, and additional parking at the Redcliffe Paceway on Gomersal St, for a small donation.

A special off-site staff carpark has been constructed at the Redcliffe Showground.

The State Government has previously told the Herald parking at the hospital, once the new carpark is complete, will cost up to $15 a day.
