Redcliffe court hears of teen’s alleged frantic crash and dash of stolen BMW

A Brisbane South teenager accused of stealing and crashing a BMW in Moreton Bay, allegedly damaging a timber fence, has faced court.

A teenager allegedly stole and crashed a BMW, with two other teens, in Moreton city before an off-duty cop on his way to work spotted the teen allegedly jumping a fence, a court has heard.

Saxon Bryan Tanner, 18 of Ellen Grove, appeared via videolink in the Redcliffe Magistrates Court on July 17, 2024, charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle while affected by an intoxicating substance, unlicensed driving, enter dwelling and commit, enter premises and commit indictable offence, receiving tainted property, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and wilful damage.

Police alleged Mr Tanner was one of three people involved in breaking into a Midnight Ct, Runaway Bay, home on June 12 about 2.20am and stealing the keys to a BMW.

About 1.30pm on June 14, the stolen BMW was involved in a three-vehicle traffic crash on Elizabeth Ave in Clontarf.

It was further alleged that Mr Tanner, the driver, fled the scene to a nearby Watson St, Clontarf property.

He was arrested soon after when he was allegedly seen jumping a fence by a Boondall highway patrol officer driving past the crash on his way to work.

It was alleged a timber fence was damaged when Mr Tanner jumped it to gain access to the yard of the proeprty.

Police further alleged Mr Tanner was driving the black BMW at high speed, weaving in and out of traffic and otherwise driving erratically before the crash occurred.

His lawyer Marielle D’Souza told the court her client would plead guilty to all charges.

“Mr Tanner does have matters listed for Brisbane Children’s Court on July 31. It’s listed for a lengthy plea,” Ms D’Souza said.

“I’m seeking that these matters can be transferred.”

Two female passengers were arrested at the scene.

A 14-year-old King Scrub girl was dealt with by way of the Juvenile Justices Act for unlawful use of a motor vehicle and three offences of stealing.

A 13-year-old Bray Park girl was arrested for unlawful use of a motor vehicle and stealing. She was remanded in custody and was due to appear in the Pine Rivers Children’s Court at a later date.

The drivers of two other cars involved in the crash received minor injuries.

The alleged driver and passengers in the stolen car also received minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

Magistrate Rees adjourned the matter to the Brisbane Magistrates Court on July 31.
