A Brisbane family and rugby league club are dealing with the tragedy of losing a beloved player, family member and friend, as a GoFundMe is set up to help the grieving family.
33-year-old Chay Hayman recently passed away, with an outpouring of Facebook posts from family members, friends and his footy club the Burpengary Jets.
Chay was a member of the Jets’ inaugural premiership winning Open Men's Team.
His sister Kia Porter took to Facebook on Tuesday to announce her brother’s passing.
“It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of our beloved brother Chay Hayman,” Kia wrote.
“He was a source of love, strength, and joy in our lives.
“As we grieve this profound loss, we take comfort in the cherished memories we hold dear.
“We are deeply grateful for the support and condolences we’ve received following the loss of our beloved brother Chay Hayman.
“Your kindness has been a great comfort during this difficult time.
“We appreciate your continued support and presence as we say our final goodbyes.”
Chay’s funeral will take place on September 13 at The Victory Centre, 32 Carseldine Rd, Bridgeman Downs, from 2.30pm. (Doors open 1.45pm)
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Black Dog Institute in his memory.
The Jets also paid tribute to Chay.
“Burpengary Jets JRLFC extends its deepest sympathies to the loved ones of Chay, a shining star in our inaugural premiership winning Open Mens Team, whose passion for footy, family and friendship inspired us all,” the Jets wrote.
“May you rest in peace.”
A GoFundMe has been set up by Soeren Borggaard to help Chay’s family.
“Chay Hayman left this earth 33 years young, just a few weeks shy of his 34th birthday,” Soeren wrote.
“We are hoping to raise some funds for the family to assist with the funeral arrangements and any other expenses at this tragic time.
“Please consider donating so we can lift a little of the burden while they navigate their way through this stage.
“The beautiful family have mentioned that any funds not used will be donated to the black dog institute.”
The GoFundMe has received 119 donations totalling $12,660 in three days, exceeding the $10,000 goal.
