A man who allegedly threatened staff at a Rothwell business with scissors before running off had his getaway foiled by a police dog.

Police arrested a 26-year-old Riverview man in relation to the alleged incident, about 9pm on December 15.

The man was confronted by staff while trying to leave the store, allegedly without paying for a number of items.

It was alleged he threatened staff with a pair of scissors before running off through a carpark with the items.

Police found the property and a backpack belonging to the man soon after.
