Crime wrap: Thefts, break and enters on rise as Palmerin St business targeted

Police are on alert following a spate of thefts and break and enters in Warwick the past week.

Here’s what you missed in the past seven days.

Thefts

Police responded to a reported theft on September 11 and are understood to be investigating after a piece of surveying equipment was stolen from beside the Cunningham Highway, west of Warwick.

The instrument, which was set up on a tripod, was believed to be stolen over the weekend.

This theft comes a matter of weeks after a $100k piece of machinery was nicked from Killarney-Warwick Rd.

— On Friday, police received information that a driver of a white van with NSW registration drove off from a service station on Helene St without paying for more than $100 worth of fuel.

This matter is still being investigated.

— At about 10.30pm on Saturday night, police were notified of a break and enter of a tobacconist store on Palmerin St.

They attended a short time later and discovered that offenders had attempted to gain entry to store items in the shop, however appear to have been disturbed by an alarm system and left empty-handed.

This is the third tobacconist-related robbery on Palmerin St in recent weeks, with three balaclava masked men entering in July with a set of bolt cutters, and a second at the end of July, where the intruder did not leave with any goods and was later arrested.

Traffic matters

Police attended two crashes on Saturday, the first being single vehicle crash occurred at about 1am on Glenvale Rd, Rosenthal Heights.

It was believed the driver, an 18-year-old man from Toowoomba, along with two passengers was travelling south on the road, when he lost control, causing the vehicle to overturn.

The driver suffered minor injuries.

He was later issued with a notice to appear for driving over the no alcohol limit as a provisional licence holder after allegedly returning a reading of 0.043 BAC, and will face court at an upcoming date.

— Police attended a non-injury traffic crash at about 7.30pm on Warwick-Yangan Rd, at Junabee.

Police tested the driver, a 24-year-old Warwick man, and he was later bailed from the Warwick watch-house

He is expected to appear in the Warwick Magistrates Court at an upcoming date for the offence of driving while under the influence after allegedly driving with a reading of 0.156 BAC

Drug matters

Following the execution of a search warrant, police allegedly located a quantity of cannabis and drug related utensils, including pipes and

smoking pieces, in a safe at an address on Rosehill Rd.

A 30-year-old Warwick woman accepted drug diversion in relation to these offences.
