A Stanthorpe man accused of threatening a police officer has been granted bail, on the condition he stay away from the town of Stanthorpe.

Bryson James Smith faces a lengthy charge sheet including four charges of breaching bail, one charge each of wilful exposure, public nuisance and threatening behaviour, and three charges of obstructing a police officer (108B COA public place adversely affected).

Police allege that Mr Smith, 27-years-old, bit a police officer, and he has been in custody since March.

In Warwick Magistrates Court on Monday, defence lawyer Hamish Chapman made a bail application, putting forward an address in Acacia Ridge, in Brisbane’s south.

“There are no issues with the address, officers have confirmed the residents are happy for that to happen,” Mr Chapman said.

Conditions for the man’s bail ordered by the magistrate included a requirement that Mr Smith is not allowed to have any contact with the officer involved in the matter and cannot enter the town of Stanthorpe.

The court was told there would be further discussions between Mr Smith’s representation and the prosecution on whether certain charges would be downgraded, which would determine if the matter could be finalised in the Magistrates Court or if it would need to go to District Court.

The matter will be heard again on October 18 in Warwick Magistrates Court.
