An 18-year-old pulled a handful of hair from his victim’s head in a drunken fight on a popular Sunshine Coast nightclub strip.
Cameron Luke Rusk was placed on an $800 good behaviour bond for nine months in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Friday, May 6, 2022 after he pleaded guilty to causing a public nuisance near the Duporth Tavern on April 17.
Police prosecutor James Allen said Rusk was “grossly intoxicated” when he and an unknown person started fighting at 3.50am.
“During the altercation (Rusk) has ended up scrapping on the floor with this other person at which point he has grabbed the person’s hair and ripped out a handful,” Mr Allen said.
Security guards quickly intervened, escorted Rusk to police and showed officer’s the handful of hair.
Mr Allen said Rusk was arrested and taken to the watch house where he blew a reading of 0.231.
He suggested a fine could be imposed.
Duty lawyer Chris Lumme said the 18-year-old had no memory of the incident and had spent many hours in custody.
Mr Lumme said Rusk had no criminal history and worked full-time.
Magistrate Rod Madsen told Mr Lumme he was leaning towards imposing a good behaviour bond to which the duty lawyer agreed was appropriate.
Mr Madsen said Rusk needed to understand his behaviour would not be tolerated.
No conviction was recorded.
