A teenage eshay who attempted to break into a Sunshine Coast home with a crowbar during a New Year crime spree smashed into two cars and injured a man during a high speed joy ride.

Addison Mana Yendall was sentenced to 12 months in prison in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 after he pleaded guilty to 32 offences including unlawfully using a motor vehicle, driving dangerously and attempting to enter a premise and commit an indictable offence.

Court documents state Yendall was driving at speed down Brampton Crescent, Mountain Creek when he crashed a stolen blue Ford Ranger ute on February 27, 2022.

“The vehicle has then mounted the footpath and has collided with a vehicle reversing out of it’s driveway, followed by a parked car on the street and then a tree of the nature strip,” the document stated.

A witness who chased the 19-year-old said he quickly got out of the damaged ute and ran down the street until he was out of sight.

The driver who was reversing out of a driveway suffered minor head and neck injuries in the crash and was treated in hospital.

Yendall was charged with receiving tainted property in relation to the ute that was stolen from a Toowoomba home between February 21 and 22.

The Wurtulla local also tried to break into two Buderim homes with a crowbar between 1.30 and 2am on January 31, 2022.

The court document stated Yendall, who was identified on CCTV, was trying to break open a door when the one of the victims woke up and confronted him.

Yendall ran away before trying another home where a sensor light scared him off.

He was also sentenced for stealing a Honda motorbike from a Golden Beach Resort car park on March 4 and using a stolen bank card.

Maroochydore Magistrates Court heard Yendall was on bail during some of his offences including when he dangerously drove the stolen ute and when he nicked the Holden motorbike.

Police prosecutor Phillip Stevens said Yendall’s dangerous drive was one of the most serious offences in his spree.

“Receiving the keys to that Ford Ranger, unlawfully using that Ford Ranger and then dangerous driving that Ford Ranger … ended up in quite a dangerous situation causing injury to a person,” he said.

Yendall was arrested in relation to all matters on March 10 when he was found at Stockland Shopping Centre.

Sergeant Stevens suggested a 12 to 15-month prison sentence with a parole release date after one third.

He said the punishment needed to deter other “youthful offenders” and asked for Yendall to be disqualified for 12 months.

Sergeant Stevens asked for Yendall to pay $2000 in restitution for the stolen motorbike.

Solicitor Luke Bull, who has represented Yendall previously, said he was doing well until he relapsed into drug use.

“After the Christmas period he has began using drugs again and his offending has resumed in February,” Mr Bull said.

He said the 19-year old had a difficult childhood and stopped school after year nine before becoming addicted to meth.

“His alcohol use coincided with that and started at 14 and later on he got into the drug use,” he said.

Mr Bull said Yendall had a long road of rehabilitation ahead of him but did have the support of his mother.

Mr Bull suggested a 12-month prison sentence with an early release date less than one third was appropriate given Yendall’s young age and early plea of guilty.

He told the court the negotiations with police resulted in a number of charges being amended or dropped.

Magistrate Christopher Callaghan considered his prospects of rehabilitation and the protection of the community.

He said Yendall had also breached his curfew restrictions on 10 occasions, failed to appear and drove unlicensed and SPER suspended during the spree.

He said the offences impacted many victims between January to March, 2022

“This is serious offending made more so by the fact that you committed the further offences while on bail,” he said.

He was disqualified from driving for 10 months.

He will be released on June 9 after serving three months in jail.

Yendall’s 55 days of pre-sentence custody was declared as time served.
