Named: South Burnett man shoots younger brother with illegal gun

A Kingaroy man has been released from jail after shooting his younger brother in the leg with an illegal rifle, leaving the 21-year-old with a fractured femur.

Damian James Jurgensen was sitting in a lounge room with his brother and two others when he pulled out a .22 calibre rifle, which he’d obtained illegally, and began “mucking around with it”, Crown prosecutor James Bishop said.

Jurgensen, who appeared in Kingaroy Magistrates Court via videolink from jail, pleaded guilty to wounding, possessing a weapon, receiving tainted property and possessing explosives.

He was sentenced to 18 months’ jail, which was wholly suspended immediately. A total of 187 days of presentence custody was declared as time served.

Former Scout Leader who served a year in prison for sex crimes in the 90s sentenced to prison for further abuse

A former Burnett Scouts leader will spend at least the next 18 months behind bars, after the serial predator pleaded guilty to a historic child sex offences against a young boy.

The Kingaroy District Court heard horrific details about the abuse, and the impact the crimes still have on the victim nearly 40 years later.

Peter Brocklesby, 67, faced the court on June 24, to be sentenced on six charges – three counts of indecent practice between males, two counts of unnatural offences and one count of threat.

It‘s the second time the former Scouts leader has been sentenced for child sex abuse, having faced court in 1993 for offending during the same period. At that time he slapped with a three-year prison sentence, of which he served one year.

Brocklesby was sentenced to six years’ jail, and will be eligible for parole on December 24, 2022.

Man jailed for menacing calls to ex after nearly blinding her with bat, urinating on her

After beating his ex-partner with a bat and urinating on her in a terrifying attack, a South Burnett man found himself back before the court after leaving menacing voice messages on her phone.

Appearing in Murgon Magistrates Court via videolink from jail, the man pleaded guilty to two counts of contravening a domestic violence order made in the District Court.

He cannot be named for legal reasons.

Listening to a voice message left by a private number on March 13, the victim recognised her ex-partner’s voice as he told her he was going to “f —k up her life”.

The man was sentenced to 12 months’ jail.

Taking into account 27 days served in pre-sentence custody, Mr Sinclair set the man’s parole release date for September 1.

Mother spared jail time after unprovoked attack leaves woman with collapsed lung

A South Burnett mother narrowly avoided jail time for an unprovoked attack that left a woman with serious lung damage.

She was instead released on immediate parole to care for her sick child.

Kacee Maddison Oberle pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm and attempting to pervert the course of justice when she appeared before the Kingaroy Magistrates Court.

Noting the exceptional nature of this case, Judge Nicole Kefford sentenced Oberle to two years’ imprisonment with immediate parole.

Convictions were recorded.

She f-ing stole what? Mother of 14 sentenced after swiping swear jar

A mother of 14 struck multiple small businesses across Kingaroy with a bizarre crime spree that involved stealing a swear jar from a motel.

Cobbo, 42, appeared in Kingaroy Magistrates Court via video link where she pleaded guilty to entering a dwelling with intent, entering premises and committing an indictable offence, breaching bail, entering premises with intent, and stealing.

Magistrate Andrew Sinclair sentenced Cobbo to six months imprisonment suspended for two years for the enter premises and stealing charges.

For the breach of bail she was convicted and not further punished.

Mr Sinclair said while the offences were opportunistic in nature, they’re nonetheless “terrifying and damaging to the fabric of society”.

Convictions were recorded.

South Burnett man behind bars after breaching domestic violence order

A woman was forced to barricade herself in a laundry to escape her enraged partner, who had armed himself with a knife and was accusing her of sleeping with his nephew.

The man pleaded guilty to contravening a domestic violence order and obstructing police.

He was sentenced to six months’ jail and will be eligible for parole on September 14.

Kingaroy ex-serviceman faced court for ‘emotionally abusing’ child with lewd messages

A 14-year-old girl was forced to go to the police after a friendship with an elderly man turned sinister, spiralling into “emotional abuse” with a string of sexual messages.

Standing before Kingaroy Magistrates Court, Charles Barry Dobbs, 72, pleaded guilty to using a carriage service to menace, harass or cause violence to the schoolgirl.

He was placed on a $1000 good behaviour bond and two years’ probation.

“This kind of behind it is very concerning for a man of your age. Particularly, somebody who has never been in trouble for anything like this in their entire life,” Mr Howden said.

‘The ATM was in his way’: Axe-wielding man’s terrifying public attack

A simple trip to the teller machine turned into a terrifying ordeal for a Kingaroy woman, when an axe-wielding man suddenly appeared and started attacking the ATM.

The shocking incident was revealed in Kingaroy Magistrates Court, where Jamie Johnson pleaded guilty to going armed to cause fear, wilful damage, and possessing meth. marijuana and drug utensils.

Magistrate Andrew Sinclair accepted the “unusual way these things unfolded” and that Johnson had not intended to cause fear to anyone.

Johnson was placed on 18 months’ probation and ordered to pay $11,642.56 in restitution.

Teen baristas distraught after man, 67, flashes penis three times

An elderly man who flashed his penis to two teenage baristas on three separate occasions attempted to blame his victims for the disgusting acts, telling police they’d smiled at him and rubbed the spout of the coffee machine.

Neville Matthew Gillis pleaded guilty in the Murgon Magistrates Court to three counts of committing an indecent act in a public place.

Magistrate Andrew Sinclair placed Gillis on probation for six months and no conviction was recorded.
