Man treated for injuries after Quay Street, Rockhampton riverbank disturbance

Multiple police and ambulance officers were on scene at Rockhampton’s CBD riverfront on Monday afternoon after a major disturbance.

Up to a dozen police crews and multiple ambulance officers were on scene at Rockhampton’s riverfront on Monday afternoon after a man was injured after a disturbance broke out.

A Queensland Police Services spokesman said police were called to a large group of people on the lower bank near Quay Street where bottles were being smashed, about 4.30pm.

He said a man at the scene was being helped by Queensland Ambulance Service and police were moving others on.

A witness at the scene told a reporter a man had fallen and hit his head on the concrete, however a Queensland Ambulance Services spokeswoman said the incident was an alleged assault.

He was being treated by paramedics, including critical care, at the scene for more than half an hour.

The QAS spokeswoman said the man was in a stable condition with pain in his ribs and chest.

Police could be heard asking bystanders involved in the disturbance, who had been drinking in the area, to move on.
