The number one schoolboys rugby league rivalry in Central Queensland is set to explode.

Proud Dolphins Cup nurseries St Brendan’s College and The Cathedral College will write another chapter in their book of feuds when they clash on Tuesday.

It’s not just a win on the line, with the two undefeated giants battling to finish with the minor premiership after a stellar campaign.

The Dolphins Cup clash will headline a big afternoon of action, with the two schools clashing in the Dolphins Cup while TCC will tackle North Rockhampton High in the Schoolgirls Cup.

You can watch the three games live and exclusive on Kommunity TV.

St Brendan’s Cup coach Scott Minto said Tuesday’s game was sure to be another classic, with the teams always rising to the occasion.

The last time they met, in the third-place playoff in the Confraternity Shield earlier this month, St Brendan’s took the honours 26-10.

“Everyone gets up for these games,” Minto said.

“We did that in the last game at Confro and handled ourselves pretty well against them so hopefully we can repeat the dose.”

Minto said the forwards battle would have a big influence on the result, with St Brendan’s giving away a fair bit of weight to TCC’s hulking pack.

“Our forwards probably give up 10-15kg per player against them but we come with a different mindset and we play a bit of a different style to them,” he said.

“We’ll be working hard to put numbers on them, making sure we tighten up a little bit and defend really well as a team.”

Minto would look to his brilliant back five, spearheaded by fullback Kobe Oberhardt and winger Noah Wright, to get the team off to a strong start.

“Those boys will be looking to have big games. They’ve all been standing up for us,” he said.

“They need to get themselves in the game early and that they’re carrying the ball strong.”

TCC coach Tony Martin wants his team to keep building on their improved showing that powered them to a commanding 40-12 win over Rockhampton Grammar last week.

“We performed better against Grammar than we probably did in our last couple of games at Confro so we just need to keep focusing on us and making sure we get better every week,” he said.

“Two things we’re concentrating on is that our completion rate is high and then backing our skill with our players performing the way they practice.

“If we do that, we give ourselves a chance in any game.

“The way we play won’t change no matter who we play.”

Martin said TCC would need a “team performance” to get over the reigning Dolphins Cup champions.

“It won’t be one or two players who have to stand up,” he said.

“Everyone knows the role and that’s all I continue to tell them - concentrate on your job and when you go out there, play to the best of your ability.

“There’s no doubt we will play through the middle because that’s where our strength is but we’ve got two very good kicking halves and some really exciting outside backs.”
