Freshly minted Confraternity Shield champions The Cathedral College will look to keep the momentum rolling when the NRL Schoolgirls Cup returns to action.
Skipper Manaia Faiumu-Malone will lead the talented team into battle against Rockhampton Grammar in the Round 6 showdown at 4.30pm on Tuesday.
The schools’ boys teams will face off in the Dolphins Challenge at 3.30pm and the Dolphins Cup at 5.30pm, and you can watch all three games live and exclusive on KommunityTV.
TCC coach Damon Moore said his players came through the Confraternity Carnival unscathed and were all “back on deck and ready to go”.
“The group of girls we have got are super competitive and to be honest, they just want to win and win well every time they step on the field,” he said.
“They’re still on a high, which is understandable when you win such a big carnival.
“It was really important to them to get that success at Confro but they’re also very aware that we’ve got some bigger fish to try down the track.
“We want to make the national final.
“We made the state final last year and had a really good go at that but we definitely want to go one step further. That’s the ultimate goal of this group.”
Moore said TCC would need to match the physicality of Grammar on Tuesday.
“They’re such a tough bunch of girls and they always take it to us physically,” he said.
“We’re aware of that and ready for it.
“We’ll also be focusing on our start so that we’re not chasing points early.
“It’s important that we start really well and flow from there.”
Moore said TCC would need to contain the impact of Grammar’s star lock Alice Kallquist, who was also coming off an impressive Confraternity campaign, earning a place in the carnival’s honorary Queensland team.
TCC’s hooker Josie Wogand will be keen to continue her Confro form, which saw her claim a host of accolades.
Moore said his forwards, led by prop Rachel Oakley and back rower Charlotte McLean, would have a big role to play on Tuesday.
“I liked what our forward pack did in the Confraternity grand final so I’ll be looking to them to really back that up, and see if they can keep setting the bar higher,” he said.
