These are the some of the strangest cases involving women in 2021 so far across Gympie, the Fraser Coast and Bundaberg.
From one woman who stole from a man by catfishing him online to another woman’s crazy McDonald’s twerking spree that ended badly, take a look below at 10 of the Wide Bay’s strangest cases.
Angelina Taylor De Brincat, Gympie
After spending two years on the run from police, a 23-year-old Mary Valley woman appeared in custody in the Gympie court and sobbed as her crimes were read aloud.
Angelina Taylor De Brincat pleaded guilty to two charges of failing to appear in court to face charges that included evading police and dangerous driving through Innisfail.
The police prosecutor told the court police had pulled her over, when De Brincat accelerated hard, swerved on to the grass and the wrong side of the road.
Police had concerns as the vehicle was heading towards the school during peak hour.
She was sentenced to 14 days behind bars, suspended for eight months.
Raynna Lee Preston, Maryborough
A dispute between two women at a Maryborough bottle shop escalated into a shocking act of violence that left the victim in need of medical attention.
Raynna Lee Preston pleaded guilty in Maryborough Magistrates Court to one count of assault occasioning bodily harm.
The court heard the two women “exchanged words” before the victim told Preston she wished she could break her glasses.
Preston was sentenced to 12 months probation and ordered to pay $500 in compensation.
Bridget Jane Canty, Bundaberg
A young woman ‘catfished’ a man just days after being sentenced in court for a similar offence.
Bridget Jane Canty pleaded guilty to fraud and using another person's identity to commit an offence.
The court heard Canty used an online dating app to lure a man, who then sent her $1000.
She was caught out once the victim became suspicious.
Canty was ordered to complete 15 months of probation.
Tamika Geiger, Gympie
A 24-year-old Gympie mother with a history of drug-related crimes, racked up a total of 28 charges including 12 counts of supplying drugs and 16 other charges, including stealing petrol and possessing syringes.
Tamika Geiger appeared by video in Gympie District Court while remanded in custody and pleaded guilty to all charges.
In late 2019 and early 2020, Geiger unlawfully used a motor vehicle, drove off without paying for petrol five times, stole money, failed to stop for police, drove without a licence having never held one, failed to dispose of two syringes and possessed a pipe.
Crown prosecutor Aleksandra Nikolic told the Gympie District Court messages found on her phone revealed 12 occasions where Geiger offered to supply codeine prescription medication methamphetamine.
Having already been in custody for six months, Judge Cash ordered Geiger be released on probation for two years, once her outstanding matter was dealt with in the Magistrates Court.
Sarahia Lee Sharp, Maryborough
Biting a security guard landed a mum before Maryborough Magistrates Court earlier in the year.
Sarahia Lee Sharp, 22, pleaded guilty to one count of seriously assaulting people performing a lawful duty.
The court heard Sharp was drinking at the Carriers Arms Hotel in July when she became involved in an altercation with another woman.
When she ran at the other woman, a security guard held out an arm to prevent her from making contact and Sharp bit the man on the upper forearm but did not break skin.
She was placed on an 80-hour community service order and a conviction was recorded.
Nicara Lisa Nutt, Bundaberg
A Bundaberg Magistrate ordered a woman to pay thousands of dollars to repair the damages she caused to her friend‘s car, after discovering she was at her ex-husband’s house.
Nicara Lisa Nutt faced Bundaberg Magistrates Court where she pleaded guilty to one wilful damage charge.
Witnesses said they heard loud banging noises and saw Nutt holding what appeared to be the top half of a metal chair which she used to cause damage to the roof of her friend’s vehicle and smashed the windscreen.
Nutt was placed on a good behaviour bond and ordered to pay $3685 in damages. No conviction was recorded.
Chloe Elizabeth Spillane, Gympie
A 37-year-old Gympie hospitality worker blew .328 on Anzac Day 2021, when she got behind the wheel of her car, crashed it at a busy intersection then got abusive with police.
Hospitality worker Chloe Elizabeth Spillane pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of liquor and obstructing police in the Gympie Magistrates Court on August 5.
Spillane was found at the scene by police and became abusive and argumentative when she was told to get her belongings from the vehicle.
Spillane was placed on 18 months’ probation, given 60 hours community service, and banned from driving for 20 months.
Layla Cheyne North, Hervey Bay
A woman's wild twerking caught the attention of police when they walked into a McDonald’s restaurant and witnessed her out of control behaviour.
Layla Cheyne North, 18, pleaded guilty to a number of charges when she appeared before Hervey Bay Magistrates Court, including public nuisance, wilful damage and assaulting and obstructing police.
The court heard North was at Dalby McDonalds about 12.30am on November 20, 2020, when, in an intoxicated state, she performed a handstand at the entrance of the restaurant.
North was fined $1000 and was sentenced to 40 hours of community service. No convictions were recorded.
Kylah-Ray Rose Foster, Bundaberg
Kylah-Ray Rose Foster pleaded guilty to a number of offences including three armed robbery in company, deprivation of liberty and unlawful use of a vehicle to facilitate the commission on an indictable offence.
The court heard Foster lured a man to her house where she promised him “sexual interaction” but when he arrived, three other men in hoods armed with baseball bats appeared.
The man was threatened and robbed.
Foster received immediate parole and convictions were recorded.
Jenny Sarah Rennert, Gympie
A 43-year-old Gympie mum pleaded guilty to smashing the Channon Street police station door and screaming at officers.
Jenny Sarah Rennert was trying to enter the Gympie police station in Channon Street when she discovered the sliding doors were locked.
Rennert kicked the lower panel of the glass door with her right foot, causing it to smash.
Magistrate Kurt Fowler fined Rennert $500 and a conviction was recorded.
‘Could have bought a unit’: $311,000 highway party price tag slammed
The Transport Minister has confirmed that a five-hour community open day to celebrate the near completion of the $1B Bruce Highway bypass of Gympie cost more than $311,000, or the equivalent of about $60,000 an hour.
