A Mary Valley woman who spent two years on the run in Victoria and New South Wales sobbed as her crimes were read out to the Gympie Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
Angelina Taylor De Brincat, 23, pleaded guilty to two charges of failing to appear in court to face charges that included evading police and dangerous driving through Innisfail.
De Brincat could be seen in the dock sobbing and holding her knees to her chest.
Police prosecutor Michael Phillips said she had failed to appear on charges from 2019, when police had tried to stop her while she was driving a rental car unlicensed.
When they pulled her over, De Brincat accelerated hard, leading to a police chase, the court heard.
She swerved on the grass and the wrong side of the road, it heard.
“Police had concerns as the vehicle was heading towards the school,” Sgt Phillips said.
“It was eight in the morning, your honour. It was a school day. It was currently busy due to the time of the morning, and children were being dropped off at school.”
Police found the car some time later, and there was cannabis in the car, the court was told.
Sgt Phillips said De Brincat had been living in New South Wales and Victoria when she failed to appear, and only returned to Queensland recently to live with family at Brooloo.
Queensland Transport alerted police of her return when she updated her licence, the court heard.
De Brincat’s earlier charges of dangerous driving, evading police and contravening a DVO were adjourned until June 21, and she was released on bail.
Magistrate Kurt Fowler told De Brincat she needed to be present in court for the June matters.
“No matter what anyone tells you, you must be here in person, do you understand that?” he said.
She was sentenced to 14 days behind bars for her two failures to appear, suspended for eight months.
