Video footage has emerged of hoons doing donuts on Teewah Beach, as outraged campers and visitors shed light on a lingering problem at the popular tourist spot.

An anonymous source shared the footage this week depicting a driver of one four-wheel drive repeatedly doing donuts and burnouts along a stretch of the beach at dusk, while other drivers appear to watch on alongside parked 4WDs.

“I was camping at Teewah over the last weekend and things haven’t changed,” the source said.

“On dark all the hoons came out and started racing each other up the beach (in 50kph zones) as well as doing donuts up and down the beach.

“I’ve often experienced hoons doing donuts well into the night (and) early morning.

“A marked police car going up the beach at lunchtime at low tide doesn’t work. The police need to be up there on dark in unmarked cars to have any chance of catching these idiots.”

The footage emerged after a mother and son were both charged by police after the 11-year-old was allegedly filmed doing donuts behind the wheel of a four-wheel-drive at Double Island Point this week.

The Rainbow Beach and Double Island Point communities reacted with shock and outrage after photos and video footage appearing to show children doing their “first donuts” on the beach were posted online.

Last month police revealed a makeshift drag strip at Teewah Beach, and people driving along Rainbow Beach while hanging outside their windows, were among the latest round of reckless behaviour caught at the popular tourist spots.
