The Courier-Mail has a longstanding love for regional news with many of its reporters starting their careers in regional newsrooms.

State political reporters Domanii Cameron and Hayden Johnson both began in journalism in regional Queensland.

Before joining The Courier-Mail, Domanii started her career at the Herbert River Express in Ingham before moving to the Townsville Bulletin. Hayden honed his craft at the Fraser Coast Chronicle and Queensland Times in Ipswich before joining the State politics team in Brisbane.

Federal political reporters Matthew Killoran and Madura McCormack also spent time covering regional Queensland at the start of their careers – Matt at the Beaudesert Times and Madura in Mackay and Townsville

Senior crime reporter Thomas Chamberlin reported at the Fraser Coast Chronicle, Cairns Post and Gold Coast Bulletin before moving to Brisbane while court reporter Vanessa Marsh was at the Bundaberg News Mail and Townsville Bulletin.

Sport editor Luke Turgeon started his career at the Gold Coast Bulletin while NRL writer Travis Meyn was in the sports team at the Sunshine Coast Daily and Gold Coast.

As well as all the reporters who hold regional news in a special place in their heart, your expanded subscription also gets you access to some of the state‘s best journalists, including award-winning crime reporter Kate Kyriacou, expert political coverage from State political editor Jessica Marsalek, the inside business gossip from Anthony Marx and exclusive NRL coverage by Peter Badel.
