GPS Rugby 2019: Round Seven teams announced, road to the GPS title

We’ve crunched the numbers to find out where each school could finish on the 2019 GPS First XV ladder. Find those results and all starting XVs here:

GPS Rugby: One Night At Suncorp

With three weeks to play, the road to the 2019 GPS rugby premiership is becoming clearer.

Just three schools are still in with a chance to raise the GPS trophy: The Southport School, Nudgee College and Brisbane Boys’ College.

Ipswich Grammar, Churchie, Toowoomba Grammar could still play themselves into the top three.

For State High, Brisbane Grammar and Gregory Terrace, the chance to climb free of the dreaded bottom three is motivation enough to mount a late season surge.

Here’s how the teams need their results to fall.

THE SOUTHPORT SCHOOL

Outright Premiers IF: TSS handle their business against Gregory Terrace (1-5) on Saturday and against Ipswich Grammar (3-3) next week. An outright Premiership would be the school’s first solo title since 2007.

Shared Premiers IF: TSS win either of their remaining games AND BBC or Nudgee end their season undefeated.

NUDGEE COLLEGE

Outright Premiers IF: The Southport School lose both of their remaining games AND Nudgee beat BGS, BBC and Churchie back-to-back-to-back.

Nudgee would make history by winning the trophy after losing in Round One - a feat no team has accomplished since Nudgee themselves in 2010.

Shared IF: Nudgee go undefeated AND The Southport School lose one of their remaining games.

BRISBANE BOYS’ COLLEGE

Outright Premiers IF: BBC finish their Premiership undefeated AND TSS lose both their remaining matches. BBC have never won an outright Premiership in 100 seasons of competition.

Their task is easier said than done because a trip up the range to face Toowoomba, followed by a road trip to Nudgee College’s Ross Oval, is about the toughest travel schedule a team can endure before a final game against wildcards BSHS.

Shared IF: BBC can win out the rest of their season AND TSS drop one of their remaining games. BBC would share the Premiership and raise the trophy for the first time since 1954.

IPSWICH GRAMMAR SCHOOL

Top three, IF: Ipswich go undefeated against TSS (6-0) and GT (1-5) AND the loser of BBC v NC in Round Eight loses another match, then Ipswich’s 10 competition points will be enough to tie for third.

CHURCHIE

Top three, IF: Churchie go undefeated against State High (1-4), Toowoomba Grammar (2-3) and Nudgee (4-1) AND Nudgee lose to BBC (4-1).

If Nudgee flip that script by beating BBC in Round Eight, Churchie could still sneak in to third - BBC just need to lose to Toowoomba Grammar up the range or State High in Round Nine.

TOOWOOMBA GRAMMAR

Top three, IF: Toowoomba go undefeated against BBC (4-1), Churchie (2-1-2) and Brisbane Grammar (0-1-4) AND Nudgee and TSS go undefeated.

BRISBANE STATE HIGH SCHOOL

Mid-table, IF: State High go undefeated against Churchie (2-1-2), BGS (0-1-4) and BBC (4-1), their eight competition points should be enough to finish higher than seventh.

GREGORY TERRACE

Mid-table, IF: Terrace beat TSS this weekend and Ipswich Grammar in Round Nine AND Churchie AND Brisbane Grammar AND State High lose all their remaining matches.

BRISBANE GRAMMAR SCHOOL

Mid-table, if: Grammar beat Nudgee, State High and Toowoomba Grammar up the range AND Terrace AND State High lose their remaining matches.
