GPS 2019 PREVIEW: HOW EVERY TEAM RATES

The return of top prop Emerson Treasure has lifted hopes of a Gregory Terrace upset in Saturday’s rivalry round against Nudgee College.

The broad-shouldered scrum pillar has been targeting this return date at Ross Oval since an ankle injury cruelly forced his withdrawal from the Queensland Schoolboys side last month.

Terrace are without a win in the state’s most renowned GPS schools rugby event since 2016 but the clash hasn’t lacked for drama since.

“No matter where the schools are on the table or in what round we meet, you’d better bring your A game because we know the best 70 minutes Terrace play each season is against us,” Nudgee College coach Andrew Scotney said.

“The 2016 game was swung by a charged-down kick and last year we grabbed two intercept tries to change the momentum when Terrace led early.”

The renovated Ross Oval grandstand for the First XV’s first home game of the season will pump extra energy into the Nudgee effort too.

Industrious lock Charlie Hayes, fullback Trezman Banjo and two-try winger Dan Muller were three of the standouts in Nudgee’s 62-21 win over Brisbane State High last weekend.

Terrace showed their firepower in a 38-all draw with Nudgee in their last pre-season trial.

“That trial definitely fed confidence and also highlighted areas to work on,” Terrace coach Ryan Schultz said.

The Vaihu brothers, Glen and David, both scored tries that day for a backline that will need to defend shrewdly as well as apply points pressure on Saturday.
