GPS Rugby 2019: Round Five teams announced, BBC cavalry return

Brisbane Boys’ College have welcomed back two key players ahead of a season defining clash with Ipswich Grammar, while TSS are breaking attacking records. Find Round Five teams here:

GPS 2019 PREVIEW: HOW EVERY TEAM RATES

Brisbane Boys’ College’s cavalry is beginning to arrive as a host of injured players make their return from injury.

Gladstone product Conor Claridge will resume his place at flyhalf for BBC after injury ruled him out of the First XV’s clashes with Churchie, Terrace and BGS.

Capable understudy Mason Gordon could be considered unlucky to lose his position after a polished debut at flyhalf but BBC’s depth will be stronger for his taste of football at the top flight.

Exciting outside back Jack Bowen-Bowyer will also return from an injury lay-off but the excellent play of rookie fullback Taj Annan will relegate him to the wing.

The nephew of legendary Cowboys fullback Matty Bowen had been a fixture at the back for BBC since his debut season in 2017.

BBC’s depth has been tested in the front row with Queensland Reds Academy hooker Jake Tierney and prop Oscar Ruru still unavailable for selection ahead of an important match.

Claridge and Bowen-Bowyer have returned at a critical stage of the season for BBC with vital clashes against Ipswich Grammar (3-1), TSS (4-0) and Nudgee (3-1) looming.

Saturday’s challenge will their toughest yet as Ipswich Grammar’s electric backline look to save their season after dropping their first match to Nudgee last week.

Neutrals would be wise to cheer on Ipswich because stripping BBC of their undefeated status will create the most open race to the finish line in years.

A BBC loss would leave The Southport School as the last undefeated team in the competition with heavyweight clashes against BBC (R6) and IGS (R8) still to be played.

TSS have enjoyed the most dominant start to a season in attack of any team in 101 years of GPS history, scoring 50 points per match up to round four.

Records could again be broken this week as TSS host Brisbane Grammar School on the Gold Coast.
