GPS Rugby 2019: Round Two teams announced, Banjo returns

Ipswich Grammar have rubbished claims star flyhalf Sam Walker will miss games with rugby league commitments. Meanwhile, Nudgee have been boosted by the return of winger Trezman Banjo.

Ipswich Grammar School can rely on Sam Walker for the rest of the year, coach Keiran Moffat has told The Courier-Mail.

Speculation was rife throughout the week that Australian Schoolboys Rugby League representatives Walker and Jack Howarth from BBC would miss several weeks attending rugby league camps.

That’s rubbish, according to Moffat.

“Barring injury Sammy should be with us throughout the GPS season,” he said.

“We are pretty happy to have him on-board fit, healthy and keen to play.”

The Roosters-bound flyhalf played in an influential role in Ipswich’s drubbing of Brisbane State High with two try assists, three linbreaks and two offloads.

Ipswich’s back three combined to score five tries with fullback Kedan Chan-Tung and winger Seamus King-Smith crossing for doubles.

BBC lock Jacob Blyton, Terrace centre Glen Vaihu and Toowoomba flyhalf Baxter Franey are tied with the Ipswich pair as the leading tryscorers in the competition.

Nudgee College’s chances in their must-win clash with Brisbane State High at Suncorp Stadium have been boosted by the return of Trezman Banjo from an ankle injury.

Banjo was a star of Nudgee’s undefeated 2018 campaign with six tries on the right wing from six games.
