Dozens of exciting developments have been planned or approved for the Bundaberg region, and are set to boost tourism, agriculture and the region as a whole.
Below are just some of the stand out developments that will shape Bundaberg in 2023.
Friendly Society Hospital Medical Centre and Pharmacy
With a strategic theme of “being bold” the Friendly Society Hospital is set to expand its cafe and pharmacy, and boost existing health services.
It’s just the first stage in the process, which will establish a new emergency department/general practice/pharmacy.
Hamptons-style luxury daycare
Catering for up to 110 children, this stunning new daycare centre is set to bring beachside elegance in the heart of Bundaberg.
Specialist landscaping will create an inviting natural space for the children alongside classic Queensland architectural features, including verandas for shading, a gable feature and classic balustrade.
Red Rooster to join Bundaberg takeaway strip
Bundaberg’s fastest-growing fast food strip will have a new addition in 2023 with a Red Rooster to join Hungry Jacks, Pizza Hut and KFC on Bargara Road.
Existing buildings were demolished at the site to make way for the restaurant with drive-through facilities.
Branyan Drive Shopping Centre Gym
This new 24/7 gym will open at the Branyan Drive Shopping Centre, home to a busy IGA, Branyan Cellars bottle shop, AquaGirls takeaway and Split Ends hairdressers.
Locals are already looking forward to having a 24/7 gym in such a convenient location.
The Washpool Creek Naturalisation Project
An indigenous inspired natural space will refresh and reinvigorate old drain at Washpool Creek, with work to include a bush tucker garden and a yarning circle.
The contract for the works was awarded to Brisbane-based business Evolve Environmental Pty Ltd by the Bundaberg Council.
Club Bargara at Bargara Golf Club
In September of 2022, the Bargara Golf Club sought approvals for a two-stage development and expansion of its existing golf club.
The proposal included a four-level, high-rise, resort-style facility featuring “panoramic” ocean-view accommodation.
South Beach Master Plan development at Elliot Heads
The first few stages sold within days and The South Beach master planned community is said to be the biggest single development in the Bundaberg region’s history.
Plans include more than 1900 homes, a retail centre, medical centre, school extensions, commercial area and aged care facilities.
Expansion planned for Childers Hillside Development
A planned expansion for the Childers Hillside development includes the addition of a range of recreational facilities including a cafe, bar, cinema, pool, gym and barbecue facilities.
The expansion will cater to guests at the 220 relocatable homes which will be added to the site.
Burnett Heads Gateway Marina
This $250m project includes 318 cyclone-proof marina berths and 46 apartments alongside commercial facilities including shops and cafes.
The project is aimed at bringing in those who have been priced out of other luxury markets such as those in Noosa, the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast.
Expansion of Bundaberg TAFE Agriculture education facilities
Bundaberg’s horticulture and agriculture sector is to get $2.7 million for a new Agriculture and Horticulture Centre at Bundaberg TAFE.
The campus is in the design stage but will include a flexible ag-tech training workshop, science laboratory for water and soil analysis and a grow pod.
Seaview road retirement village
A master planned relocatable home park has been proposed for Seaview Road Bargara, with 232 sites to be built along with a clubhouse, pool, bowling green and tennis court.
The development proposed two and three-bedroom homes, with some to have extensions to accommodate caravans and RVs.
Royal Flying Doctor Service training centre
The RFDS facility at the Bundaberg Airport will house a training simulator unique to the Southern Hemisphere with its Beechcraft King Air Pro Line Fusion Full-Flight Simulator.
This new facility will train RFDS pilots from across the country, each spending at least two weeks in the centre as part of yearly training requirements.
Shalom College to expand sports precinct
Shalom College will expand its sporting precinct to accommodate its expanding cricket, AFL and rugby league playing students.
The expansion will also include flood lights for night games and training.
Greenleaf Renewables Biggenden wind farm project
Up to 23 wind turbine generators have been proposed for Biggenden which will generate enough electricity to power 65,000 homes a year and avoid about 360,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
The project is currently in the developmental and environmental approval application stages.
