Construction of a coastal development boasting a suburban beachside oasis featuring modern homes and commercial retailers will start at Elliott Heads in August 2022.
The South Beach master planned community, which took 10 years to plan, is said to be the biggest single development in the Bundaberg region’s history, and one of the last major beachside master planned developments on the east coast of Australia.
The plan includes 2000 homes, a retail centre, medical centre, extension to the existing school, commercial area, tourist park, a 320-lot retirement resort and aged care facilities.
An official groundbreaking ceremony will take place on Friday, August 19, to mark the first stages and roads planned for the new beachside community.
The ceremony will be performed by Hinkler MP Keith Pitt and Burnett MP Stephen Bennett.
South Beach Development director Helen Blackburn said the development will provide much needed local services for the Elliott Heads area, including a planned medical centre, childcare facilities, a proposed supermarket and a service station.
“The groundbreaking is such a brilliant event for the Elliott Heads community to celebrate,” she said.
“South Beach has been such an amazing success since we launched.
“After over 10 years work, the vision of John Manera for South Beach at Elliott Heads is now finally becoming a reality.”
Ms Blackburn said to celebrate the new development, South Beach would offer a limited number of $10,000 discounts on land or house-and-land packages that will also be released on the day.
“We sold out our first few stages within days of each release,” she said.
“As well as keen local buyers we also have considerable interest from areas as far away as Melbourne.
“Where else in Australia can you buy 800m2 blocks of land near the beach for under $250,000 or a brand new three bed house and land package built by quality local builders for under $460,000?”
Ms Blackburn said South Beach was “meticulously” designed to make sure the existing eco-systems of Elliott Heads were protected with minimal environmental impact.
“It is very exciting to see such an asset for the region come to life,” she said.
New parks, playgrounds, pathways, bikeways and new trees will also be part of the new build.
It’s unknown when construction is expected to be completed.
