Brisbane French dining institution Montrachet has taken out the coveted title of southeast Queensland Restaurant of the Year in the annual Restaurant and Catering Hostplus Awards.
The popular Bowen Hills restaurant owned by Shannon and Clare Kellam beat out more than 100 entries to claim the gong, while Port Douglas favourite Salsa Bar & Grill won Restaurant of the Year for North Queensland and the Northern Territory.
The annual ceremony recognises hospitality operators who consistently provide exceptional service and demonstrate culinary excellence in their respective fields, with judges critiquing the venue on everything from quality of food and presentation to staff greetings and attitude.
Also walking away from Monday night’s awards on top was Cairns’s Wild Thyme Restaurant claiming Casual Dining of the Year for the North Queensland and Northern Territory, with the same prize awarded to Le Coin Bistro in Brisbane’s Red Hill for the SEQ region. Le Coin also won best cafe dining in SEQ; while Caterer of the Year went to Brisbane City’s Blackbird Bar, Dining & Events.
Other big winners in SEQ were Spicers Retreats’ The Tamarind in Maleny for Best Asian, Gambaro Seafood Restaurant in Petrie Terrace for Best Seafood and Moo Moo The Bar & Grill in Brisbane CBD for Best Steak.
A selection of the finalists will now go on to compete in the national competition later this year.
