After almost two years of secrecy, the first restaurant to take a permanent location in Brisbane CBD’s new Queen’s Wharf precinct can officially be revealed.
Celebrity chef Luke Nguyen will move his much-loved Fat Noodle eatery, currently at Treasury Brisbane, to the $3.6 billion riverside development, becoming one of more than 50 new restaurants, cafes and bars to be spread across the 12ha site.
“Given the immense excitement around Queen’s Wharf Brisbane and how significantly the entire precinct will transform this city, it was an opportunity I jumped at,” Nguyen said.
The TV presenter and cook said the 2.0 version of his Asian-inspired restaurant would be bigger and better, featuring a hawker-style vibe, open kitchen and fast and friendly service, with all his most popular dishes like pho and laksa being joined by fresh, never-before-seen fare.
“I really believe Brisbane is going to be the culinary capital of Australia,” he said.
“I can feel the enthusiasm buzzing around Queen’s Wharf and I’m thrilled to take dining at Fat Noodle at The Star Brisbane to a whole new level.”
Joining Fat Noodle at the precinct will be a sports bar featuring two 12m-plus LED screens and stadium-like surround sound, which has been given a tick of approval by the Brisbane Broncos; plus a monster event centre with the city’s largest hotel ballroom providing capacity for up to 2000 guests, which will start taking bookings this week.
The Star Brisbane chief operating officer Kelvin Dodt said: “Events and conferencing are mega drivers of economic benefit, so whether a gala dinner, product launch, exhibition or trade show, our Event Centre at The Star Brisbane will herald a new era for events in Queensland, encouraging visitors to stay longer and support local businesses.”
But those wanting to book the property’s luxury 340-room, five-star hotel, The Star Grand, will have to wait until later in the year for reservations to become available.
The hotel will occupy levels eight to 17 of the two river-facing arc towers and include three pools and four penthouse suites.
Queen’s Wharf is on track to begin its staged opening from next April, and will also feature a 100m-high Sky Deck, 12 hectare leisure deck, luxury retail and three more premium hotels.
