HOLLYWOOD blockbuster Godzilla vs. Kong has come to Brisbane.
A film set took over the Chinatown Mall in the busy inner city suburb of Fortitude Valley on Thursday for a one-day shoot in the city.
The joint Warner Bros and Legendary film has been filming at Village Roadshow Studios and on location on the Gold Coast since January, having previously filmed in Hawaii.
Throughout the day unit trucks and trailers surrounded a closed off section of the Chinatown Mall, which was guarded by security, while filming took place in the markets and a side alleyway.
“We are shooting a scene that takes place in Chinatown, not in Brisbane, so we are using your beautiful Chinatown,” unit publicist Deborah Simmrin told the Courier-Mail.
“It will be our only day in Brisbane.”
“(The shoot) has been great. It's lovely here.”
The film stars Alexander Skarsgard (The Legend of Tarzan), Eiza Gonzalez (Baby Driver), Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things) and Julian Dennison (Deadpool 2), although it wasn’t clear which of the actors were involved in the Chinatown scene.
While Gonzalez has already wrapped her role in the film, Brown arrived in Queensland last week, attending a closed event at the Converse store at Westfield Chermside, in Brisbane’s north, on Saturday.
Dennison, the breakout New Zealand actor from Hunt for the Wilderpeople, has also recently arrived on the Gold Coast.
The base camp for the shoot was set up in the inner-city suburb of Newstead, nearby the trendy Gasworks food and shopping precinct.
The once-vacant block was attracting attention from curious residents, with the site filled with trailers for the cast and crew, as well as a carpark for extras on the shoot.
The site was also guarded by security to keep passers by for coming in to try and get a glimpse of the stars.
The film is expected to create up to 300 jobs and $43 million in expenditure on jobs, goods and services in Queensland.
In 2016 filming on Marvel blockbuster Thor: Ragnarok shut down Brisbane’s CBD for four days, with stars Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston regularly coming out in costume to greet the thousands of fans who flocked to the site.
The spectacle attracted global attention.
Hiddleston previously filmed Kong: Skull Island, a precursor to Godzilla vs. Kong, in Queensland, which helped entice producers to return to the state.
“We’re thrilled to be back on the Gold Coast with our next Monsterverse adventure,” producer Alex Garcia said in a statement in January.
“We had a wonderful experience here on Kong: Skull Island, and the Queensland Government through Screen Queensland has been a terrific resource in helping us leverage the region’s stunning landscapes, exceptional facilities and fantastic crews to achieve the scope we need for this epic next chapter in the saga.”
