AUSTRALIAN label Ginger & Smart, a favourite of Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s wife Jenny, is the latest high-fashion designer label to land in Brisbane.
Sister design duo Alexandra and Genevieve Smart are opening their first Ginger & Smart store in Brisbane City, a concession in David Jones’ QueensPlaza store, tomorrow off the back of strong online sales in the Sunshine State.
“Our Queensland customer loves our print and colour, which is at the heart of our brand,” said Alexandra, who co-founded the label with her sister in 2002.
The pair closed their flagship Pacific Fair boutique on the Gold Coast in January.
The new Brisbane concession will stock the full Ginger & Smart range, opening with resort collection Here and Now, inspired by Australia’s native flora.
The brand is a favourite of celebrities such as Lisa Wilkinson and Carrie Bickmore, but it’s the endorsement by Mrs Morrison — who wore a Ginger & Smart dress to the Oval Office in Washington in September — that made headlines.
“Mrs Morrison had worn our dresses to a variety of events, like meeting the Queen, so we reached out to see if she would be interested in Ginger & Smart styling her for her trip to the US to meet the President,” Alexandra said.
“She was excited by this and has subsequently worn pieces from our collection to a number of events.”
