To find how each school performed between 2015 and 2019, their average scores for each year were combined and the yearly average found.
Special schools, schools with fewer than 20 students enrolled in either year, and schools that did not report any results for NAPLAN subjects in either year were excluded from the analysis.

The figures were independently compiled from the Federal Government’s MySchool website.
That revealed Somerville House, in South Brisbane, had the second highest results for Year 5s over that period, with a yearly average of 2783.6.
Somerville House principal Kim Kiepe said her school day to day teaching across the entire curriculum to optimise and strengthen students’ literacy and numeracy skills.
“We have found that the consistent approaches by all staff to literacy and numeracy teaching and learning allows our students the ability to think laterally and creatively,” Mrs Kiepe said.
“The School has found this to be a more effective approach than simply ‘practising’ for NAPLAN as it optimises student outcomes in general; although we do also have a complementary program we utilise for test preparation.”
“One of our recent facility upgrades is the refurbishment of our Technology Services area, and is yet another way Somerville House is providing exceptional learning and educational outcomes for our students.”
“We believe our educational offering is further enriched by these new amenities, allowing us to be at the forefront of technological advancements in ICT and maximising the use of technology as an educational tool as we look forward to the 2020 academic year.”
Mansfield State High School principal Karen Tanks said students and staff continued to maintain a proud tradition as “a quiet achiever” with regards to NAPLAN.
“Our year 9 students always outpace the national minimum standards and more significantly they outperform the results of ‘like schools’,” she said.
“A key support of student success is the collaborative approach provided by our teaching and support staff.
“High quality learning and teaching in all subjects is the foundation of our exceptional results in NAPLAN.
Ms Tanks said research based approaches to reading, writing and numeracy had been integrated school-wide.
“We do not explicitly prepare for NAPLAN, but rather we embed high quality learning and teaching practices throughout the school curriculum – using programs such as Eagle & Wolf Reading, Write it up! and Polya’s Problem Solving Model to ensure student success,” she said.
“Perhaps most effective is our communication with students and their families – every student, every day, understands the following: Mansfield SHS expects them to do their best, what they do today will count towards tomorrow and every individual is responsible for their learning growth.
“The consistently high NAPLAN performance at Mansfield SHS is one small indicator of the exceptional work of our dedicated teachers, and their partnership with students and their families. We are very proud of our Mansfield SHS students.”

“This is reflected through a high level of professional maturity that sees staff developing and sharing resources, conducting observations and providing development feedback.
“It starts with our Prep team and is reflected throughout the school by our participation rate in NAPLAN of between 96 per cent and 99 per cent over the past ten years.”
Brisbane State High School executive principal Wade Haynes said literacy and numeracy and the skills tested in NAPLAN were important for students in every year of high school.
