THESE are the Redlands Coast schools that consistently top the state’s NAPLAN results.

An independent analysis of five years of NAPLAN results has revealed the schools that performed the best in the Year 5 and Year 9 tests between 2015 and 2019.

Over that five-year period, Ormiston College, in Ormiston, had higher Year 5 yearly results than any other school in the state, scoring an average of 2675.6 each year.

The top performing Year 9 school was Ormiston College, in Ormiston, where the average yearly result was 3140.6 for the five years.

Ormiston State School Principal Neil Randall said the success was due to the school’s commitment to comprehensive education.

“Ormiston State School is committed to providing positive learning opportunities for all students through a detailed knowledge of individual needs and a culture that promotes every child as an individual who thrives on a sense of belonging, engagement and recognised success,” Mr Randall said.

“We are thrilled with the improvements in our student achievement results this year.”

To find how each school performed between 2015 and 2019, their average scores for each year were combined and the yearly average found.

Special schools, schools with fewer than 20 students enrolled in either year, and schools that did not report any results for NAPLAN subjects in either year were excluded from the analysis.

The third best performing Year 5 school was Thornlands State School, in Thornlands, with five yearly average results of 2600.0.

Thornlands State School Principal Robyn Wilton said the school’s achievements were due to a whole school approach to great teaching, which she said was delivered consistently by a cohesive team of committed and highly skilled teachers.

“Our teachers work together to implement best practice in learning and they are supported by a range of staff and school structures to further maximise student learning outcomes,” she said.

“For the past eight years our school vision has been MORE (Making Our Results Excellent), which means all of our students reaching their full potential.

“We have developed a school culture of high expectations and shared responsibility to ensure that we are constantly striving towards achieving this vision.

“Developing the capacity of all of our staff, whether teaching or non-teaching, to deliver these results is a vital component in our success.

“We believe that our NAPLAN results are a valid measure of the highly effective teaching that happens for each and every one of our students, each and every day that they attend our school, from Prep until the end of Year 6.

“For that reason, we value our results very highly, and collectively we are very proud of what we achieve.”

The second-best performing Year 9 results were at Sheldon College, in Sheldon, where yearly results were 2617.6.

Redlands College, in Wellington Point, had the third highest average results between 2015 and 2019 with averages of 2964.8.
