8.30am I have a pandan croissant with a Melbourne breakfast tea.

10.30am Over a coffee meeting, I have a latte, half a strawberry sando and yuzu tart.

12.30pm A bagel with smoked salmon, cream cheese, red onion and dill.

5pm My favourite work snack is Whittaker’s milk chocolate. I need some energy before my bouldering session.

8pm Post-workout, I have some chilli pan mee noodles at a Malaysian eatery, and later a golden kiwifruit before bed.

Dr Joanna McMillan says:

Top marks for … Your chilli pan mee, which usually has Asian greens and/or snow peas, protein from the meat and slow-release carbs from the noodles. Adding the kiwifruit gave you vitamin C, required every day as we can’t store it.

If you keep eating like this you’ll … Miss out on many of the nutrients that your body needs for optimal health. You have several sweet treats and refined carbs from the pastries and white bakery foods, while falling short on whole foods including vegies, fruit, wholegrains, nuts, legumes and seeds.

Why don’t you try … Swapping the bagel for wholegrain sourdough and adding veg or a side salad. Sticking to one sweet treat, and not every day. Choosing dark chocolate over milk chocolate as it provides far more antioxidants. A smoothie with nuts, fruit and yoghurt would be a better choice than the croissant.
