Northcote Bakeshop
Contemporary
Funky home-bake is the theme here - from the rough-hewn timber and brick fitout to the warm vinyl R 'n' B on the turntable and the made-on-site brunches and sweets. Top of the charts is a generous brioche hamburger bun wrapped around scrambled free-range eggs and bacon with house-made tomato relish. There's a Latin theme in empanadas - mildly spicy lamb, potato and rosemary or a vegan version with sweet potato, pumpkin and black beans. Massive peanut butter and salted-caramel cookies please kids, while a Colombian Fair trade Asprounion single origin is syrupy and lush, with stone fruit and citrus hints and a toasty finish.
