Luxon vows back-to-basics government as he begins coalition talks
Auckland | Incoming New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon says he will draw from his corporate experience in negotiations with the right-wing, libertarian party he will rely on to form government, after his National Party won nearly 40 per cent of the primary vote to end Labour’s run in Saturday’s general election.
The 53-year-old former Air New Zealand chief executive led the centre-right National back to power after six years in opposition, having campaigned heavily on the country’s cost-of-living crisis and rising crime rates.
