Sarah Snook’s Wilde turn on Broadway wins top gong

Michael Bailey

Adelaide’s Sarah Snook has won a Tony, the theatre world’s biggest award, for playing all 26 characters in Sydney Theatre Company’s The Picture Of Dorian Gray.

Beating out the likes of Mia Farrow in The Roommate, Snook’s win for Best Actress In A Play – announced on Sunday night (Monday morning AEST) in New York – was one of six nominations for the Australian production, which was conceived and directed by former STC artistic director Kip Williams, and taken to Broadway (via the West End) by Sydney’s Michael Cassel Group.

An earlier version of this story incorrectly said that Kip Williams was beaten to a Tony Award for Best Direction Of A Play by Dana Taylor. That award in fact went to Sam Pinkleton for ‘Oh Mary’. The article also incorrectly stated that Moulin Rouge: The Musical was nominated for Tonys this year. It won 10 Tonys in 2021 but was ineligible in 2025.
