Desperate to give a sense of business as usual, the death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi creates a new set of problems for a regime that is already facing significant challenges.
In the immediate term, little will change – Iran’s regional malevolence will continue, albeit subdued after its failed attack on Israel. Longer term, the signs point to a hardening of the regime’s already hard-line focus. None of which bodes well for the long-suffering Iranian people.
