Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who has the final say in the Shiite theocracy, named a little-known vice president as caretaker after the country’s president died in a helicopter crash.
Iran has offered no cause for the accident – which killed both President Ebrahim Raisi and the country’s foreign minister – nor suggested sabotage brought down the helicopter, which crashed in mountainous terrain in a sudden, intense fog.
