Tel Aviv | Israel launched air strikes on the heart of Damascus on Wednesday (Thursday AEST), bombing the Syrian Defence Ministry in a warning to the new government over military action near its borders.
The Israeli military also carried out strikes in southern Syria, where sectarian violence has raged in recent days involving the Druze minority, whom Israel has vowed to protect. The strikes on the Defence Ministry compound, next to a busy public square in central Damascus, killed at least three people and injured 34, Syrian officials said.
