London | Street battles raged in Gaza City with Hamas fighters using tunnels to ambush Israeli forces, as negotiations were reportedly underway to secure a short humanitarian ceasefire in return for the release of about a dozen hostages.

The Israeli military said on Wednesday (Thursday AEDT) its troops had advanced into the heart of Gaza City, Hamas’ main bastion and the biggest city in the seaside enclave, while the terrorist group said its fighters had inflicted heavy losses.
