Australians woke to a remarkable video from Tehran on Tuesday; prominent Iranian TV anchor Sahar Emami was interrupted live on air by loud explosions and ran from the studio as smoke and debris filled the screen.
The strike on Iran’s state TV channel, IRIB, killed two people and led global headlines for hours, an indication that Israel’s attack on Iran was moving beyond nuclear targets. The Iranian government hailed Emami as a “symbol of resistance” and the Committee to Protect Journalists said it was “appalled by Israel’s bombing of Iran’s state television channel while reporters were live on air”.
