London | Matildas captain Sam Kerr was “speaking her truth” when she called a British police officer “f---ing stupid and white”, her fiancee Kristie Mewis told a London court on Thursday (Friday AEDT).

Ms Kerr – Australia’s leading goalscorer and the star striker for London soccer club Chelsea – is on trial this week, accused of racially harassing police constable Stephen Lovell. Her outburst took place at a south London police station in the early hours of January 30, 2023, after she and Ms Mewis had a drunken altercation with the driver of a London black cab.
