Royals face tricky tightrope over public expectations
London | The royal family is treading a delicate path between its members’ own instinct for restraint and privacy as they grieve the loss of a family member, and the public’s apparent appetite to see emotion on display and participate in the mourning process.
The balancing act has prompted a funeral next Saturday (Sunday, AEST) for Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, who died on Friday aged 99, that will be both intimate and private yet also televised live.
