London | Climate-sceptic Donald Trump’s US election victory has cast a pall over this year’s COP summit in Baku, Azerbaijan, which was already threatened by entrenched global discord and a widespread no-show from political and corporate leaders.
The big goal of the COP29 summit, which begins on Monday, is to land a deal between the almost 200 participating countries on how much money richer countries and investors need to give poorer countries to deal with climate change. Demands of $US1 trillion ($1.5 trillion) a year, or more, are on the table.
