Tokyo | China’s directive for students enrolled in universities overseas to return to campus as soon as possible is the latest abrupt policy about-face for a country keen to end three years of isolation.

The Chinese government is reversing a 2020 rule change to recognise degrees from foreign universities completed online, a concession made at the time to account for the closure of foreign borders.
