Tokyo | Former Australian security adviser John Garnaut has told US Congress that governments underestimate President Xi Jinping’s ambitions to interfere in elections, warning that TikTok alone had the potential for “radically reshaping” global public opinion.

Mr Garnaut, a China expert and former journalist, appeared as a witness for a powerful US House Select Committee hearing on Chinese influence operations and propaganda.
