‘The sky won’t fall’: Beijing appeals for calm over tariff storm

Tokyo | A defiant China insisted “the sky won’t fall” as a result of Donald Trump’s aggressive tariffs, but acknowledged that the world’s second-largest economy would take a hit to exports and perhaps even growth.

In a lengthy commentary that warned against panic, Beijing said it has room to ease borrowing costs and could introduce a range of other options to defend its economy against Trump’s sweeping tariffs on all imports into the United States.
