China set to repeat 5pc growth target at annual political gathering

Beijing | Hotels around Beijing have jacked up their prices. Restaurants are booked. And thousands of Communist Party members have descended on the capital for China’s biggest annual political event, where the government sets out its economic direction and spending plans for the year.

This week’s massive national parliament sitting led by Xi Jinping is carefully choreographed and run with military precision, and is unlikely to throw up many surprises over five days in the Great Hall of the People.
